Here's a pretty good, if long, Flicker Slideshow .
I swear, people in Montreal have WAY more fun than we do in Toronto....
And I really wanna know what the "TamTams" are.

Let's get a bunch of people together to spoil someone else's fun because we think we're cooler than they are.
I hope "those nerdy Cegep kids" concussed a few of the fuckers.
Better, I hope they come after me and my nerdy friends.

After all, if you're going to run around with a gigantic foam-tipped Q-tip and joust in the park, you have to be prepared to slay the occaisional monster. :)
What you do is real, with real weaponry. What the Cgep kids do is, well, make-believe.

I was rather more vehement than I meant to be. [shrug]
Let me see if I can tell you where I'm coming from.
LARPers have their own game. Some play monsters, some heroes, and there are referees to ensure that everyone follows the rules. They have a lot of fun at it. The joke is only funny if you dismiss their activity because they're 'nerds'. (My least favourite comment on that forum was the fellah who refered to them as "an embearasment to humanity") The tone of the message board led me to believe that the intent was somewhat less than positive.
For example, if a bunch of guys were playing basketball in the park, and some football players decided it would be hilarious to run in and tackle them, would you feel that if you play sports you have to expect others to join in? Or would you call them jerks?
We focus on historical techniques, so what we're doing can be called more 'real', but when you get right down to it, we're still a bunch of nerds with swords. I'd kinda rather that the cool kids tried messing with us, at least we could defend ourselves.

However, although the contempt of some of the participants was nasty it sounds, to judge from the overall response, like the actual event was neither malicious nor nasty, but fun all round.

I guess Montreal really is a lot cooler than Toronto. If someone tried that here I'm pretty sure it would've turned violent.
